Why can't I use custom thumbnails on YouTube?
Your YouTube account doesn't come with the ability to upload custom thumbnails by default. In order for your account to gain this ability, you need to first enable the custom thumbnail option.
Can you use any picture as a thumbnail?
Yes, you can use Google Images for your thumbnail as long as you're not infringing on any copyrights. As long as you're using an image in the public domain or that you have permission to use, you should be good to go. But just because you can use a Google Image doesn't mean you always should.
Why can't I add a custom thumbnail on YouTube 2021?
There are no views, subscribers, or watch time requirements to unlock custom thumbnails. All you need to do is verify your YouTube account. And you can do that from this very screen. Next to your profile logo and channel name at the top, you will find a blue verify button.
Can you change YouTube thumbnail after publishing?
You can choose a video thumbnail when you initially upload the video, or later, when the video has been processed. You can even change it after it's published. If you are uploading the video, you should see three thumbnail options appear at the bottom of the upload screen while the video is uploading and processing.
